6th Annual Fundraising Gala and Awards Night

About the Annual Gala:

The 6th Annual Gala will celebrate NAMC’s accomplishments and notable Nigerians.  This year’s theme is “Building Unity.”

The gala will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2016 at the Doubletree Greenway Plaza, located at 6 E Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas 77046.

Special performances will display the global influence of the Nigerian Diaspora.  The Gala is an elegant evening that starts with a cocktail hour during which guests can network with local dignitaries and other honored guests. Afterwards, guests will enjoy a gourmet dinner and drinks of their choice.

Featuring:

Yvonne Orji – Image Awardee and Host

Yvonne Orji is a Nigerian-American actress, comedienne and writer who continues to display her versatility and passion with each project she takes on.  On television, she stars in HBO’s hit comedy series Insecure which premiered October 2016. The show follows the friendship of two modern-day black women and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations. Yvonne stars as one of these women opposite Issa Rae, who is executive producing the show along with Prentice Penny and Melina Matsoukas.

Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye – Distinguished Professional of the Year

Dr. Olutoye is Co-Director of the Texas Children’s Fetal Center and fetal surgery team member, as well as a general pediatric surgeon. In 2016, Dr. Olutoye and his colleague, Dr. Darrell Cass, removed a rare tumor from a the base of a baby’s tailbone and then returned the child to the mother’s womb.  Twelve weeks after that unprecedented operation, the baby was born normally.  In 2015, Dr. Olutoye led a team of doctors in a 26-hour operation to separate conjoined twins, Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith Mata.  Dr. Olutoye received his medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in 1988 and his PhD in anatomy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, in 1996. 
 

Edose Ohen – Young Entrepreneur of the Year

Edose Ohen is the Chief Executive Officer at Alfa Dando a member of the HPO Global group of companies which operations span from Oil and Gas Consulting to Information Technology Services. A serial entrepreneur, he is also the Founder of Glazed the Doughnut Café (Houston’s Premier Gourmet Doughnut Shop), WirelessNG (An Internet Services Company with a focus on delivering high speed internet services wirelessly), and Alfa O & O Networks (A Global Information Technology Solutions and Procurement company focused on providing enterprise grade solutions to the Oil and Gas Sector). 
 
 

Adetola Abatan – Officer of the Year

Adetola Abatan is a Senior Production Engineer with Shell Oil Co. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and has 10+ years of experience in oil and gas production from Unconventional Reservoirs. She is also the owner of Hooks, Beads and Things which offers art, jewelry and clothing of her creation or from her international travels.

Raffle Tickets:

NAMC will raffle off a variety of gift packages, including tickets to the theater, dining, and electronics.  You may purchase tickets in person at the Gala or through a Gala committee member.
